In a 2007 survey with members of the U.S. Hereditary Angioedema Association (HAEA), people report having about 27 swelling attacks per year on average
According to a 2011 European study with 186 people with HAE, people with HAE and their caregivers miss an average of 20 days of work or school per year
Estimates state people with HAE lose between 20 to 100 days of social activities annually
HAE attacks are often disfiguring and debilitating, imposing a significant burden on people’s quality of life
Attacks that affect the throat can close the airway and lead to suffocation
