10 Facts About HAE

HAE is a rare disease that causes parts of my body to suddenly swell up. These attacks are unpredictable and can happen at any time.

These attacks can affect different parts of my body, including my face, arms, hands, legs, feet, genitals, or stomach.

If an attack affects my throat and prevents me from breathing, it can be life-threatening.

These attacks can be triggered by anxiety, injury, or even excitement, and sometimes happen for no
known reason.

About one person in 50,000 has HAE in the United States.

HAE is typically passed down from parent to child.

HAE is not contagious, and I cannot pass it on to you.

An attack from HAE is not the same as swelling from an allergic reaction.

Allergy medications don’t treat HAE attacks. To treat one, I use medication for HAE prescribed by
a healthcare provider.
